Thoughts on Christmas from Nancy J. Farrier
I have to say it’s hard to think about Christmas when the temperatures in the shade are running 111° and 112°. Thoughts of snowflakes or sleigh rides or drinking hot chocolate on a frosty night sort of melt away the moment the door opens and that sweltering air rushes inside.
Yet when you think about Christmas, the spirit of the holiday is something that shouldn’t be seasonal but should be part of our lives all year long.
What is that spirit that we enjoy so much at Christmastime? It’s the act of giving selflessly. Starting with the gift given to us from God—the gift of Jesus.
We give gifts to one another. We give food to those who need extra. We make treats to share with neighbors, friends, and family. We give joy through our smiles, our music, and our excitement for the season. We give by sharing hope with those around us.
All those can be done throughout the year. How do we maintain that level of joy and giving? By remembering the greatest gift given to us. Our Savior Jesus Christ. A gift like no other.
We can celebrate Him whether the temperatures are below zero or well over 100°. Celebrate Him this summer.
Now, it’s time to for the secret words: and do

Christmas isn’t just a date or a day. It is a state of mind that can be celebrated any time. It is something we learned as a military family. You celebrate when you can. You are celebrating an event or a person, not a date on the calendar.
