Welcome to the Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt! If you’ve just discovered the hunt, be sure to start at Stop #1, and collect the clues through all the stops, in order, so you can enter to win one of our top 5 grand prizes!
• The hunt BEGINS on 10/15 at noon MST with Stop #1 at LisaTawnBergren.com.
• Hunt through our loop using Chrome or Firefox as your browser (not Explorer).
• There is NO RUSH to complete the hunt—you have all weekend (until Sunday, 10/18 at midnight MST)! So take your time, reading the unique posts along the way; our hope is that you discover new authors/new books and learn new things about them.
• Submit your entry for the grand prizes by collecting the CLUE on each author’s scavenger hunt post and submitting your answer in the Rafflecopter form at the final stop, back on Lisa’s site. Many authors are offering additional prizes along the way!
Welcome! Nancy J. Farrier here, author of contemporary and historical Christian fiction, desert dweller, and she-who-walks-on-rattlesnakes. Well, not quite on the rattlesnake. But, on one of my morning walks in the desert, I bumped a rattlesnake with my foot. He was not happy and my heart went aerobic. I did stop to take a picture though. I love walking and often think of new story ideas on my morning treks. You can connect with me here, on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

I may live in the desert, but I love the California coast, where my latest book, Matching Points, is set. Here is the blurb:

Fresh out of prison, Asia Jessup wishes she could change her past and maybe her future. As she searches for family, her devastating secret might destroy her last hope of connection. Ian Kittridge has his own thriving restaurant, and is a respected business owner. Thanks to a teenage Asia’s empathy one summer he’d been pulled back from the brink of ruining his life and ending up like his father—a murderer. As Asia’s secrets quake the family she hoped to find, can she and Ian find their way through the storm, to a peaceful resolution, and look toward a brighter future?
One thing Asia and Ian learn is quilting. Yikes! I don’t quilt and they don’t either. They don’t want to take a quilting class, but they do want to help out their good friend, Asia’s cousin, Cinda.
Sew What? Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone.
I took a huge step outside my comfort zone to learn about quilting for my book. Sewing has never been something I enjoyed. In fact, I often say my sewing machine and I share an uneasy truce that can quickly escalate into outright warfare. Not only did I learn about quilting and study the craft, I did a sewing project of my own, and did so successfully.

Learning something new, or trying something you’ve never done before, can be unnerving and downright scary. But, there is satisfaction at the end of the task. I made some lovely cloth napkins that I gave my daughters and they loved them. The napkins weren’t a quilt, but the process of pinning, ironing, and sewing gave me a feel for what it might be like to make a quilt.
Have you ever stepped outside your comfort zone? Have you done something very different, and maybe a bit scary? I’d love to hear about your experience.
This is Stop #10

I live a pretty boring life…nothing terribly scary or too much outside of my comfort zone. Oh…it’s sort of laughable, but when the kids were little, I took piano with them…but the teacher MADE me perform in the recital. I completely forgot my piece…and couldn’t find where I was on the music. It was mortifying. So there you go…outside my comfort zone and terrifying…LOL!!
Camille, I can relate. I play piano and remember those painful recitals. I’m glad you did that though. Thank you for stopping by.
Look forward to reading a new author
Thank you, Laurie.

I just subscribed to your newsletter! As for stepping outside my comfort zone, one story I have is God impressing on my heart to join the prison ministry at our church. It was just one other lady and I that would meet one other church one night every week. I had never done anything like that before. For a while, I pretty much just accompanied the other ladies and then one day there weren’t enough of us, and I was sent to section by myself with a teen girl. I ended up sitting and talking with a lady that we had talked about on the way there that night, who was in the news for holding up a Dollar General with a plastic toy gun. Interesting night for sure…but I was able to share Jesus with her and pray with her. And God used that to pull me further out of my shell.
Hannah, what an incredible story and an inspiring way to step outside your comfort zone. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Nancy! I just signed up for your newsletter, I’m sorry I was not already signed up.
I stepped out of my comfort zone a few years ago to become a mentor to younger ladies at my church. It’s been a wonderful experience!
(Did your sister help you learn about quilting?)
Just signed up! You are a new author to me and look forward to reading some of your books. Thank you for this chance!

I like to quilt, though I rarely have time anymore. That makes your new book extra interesting. I just subscribed to your newsletter. The big thing I did outside my comfort zone was studying for certification then quitting my job and starting my own business as a professional guardian. Wasn’t able to make a success of it, but I felt proud of myself for trying.
Already subscribed. I already have books 1.5, 1, 2 and enjoyed reading them.
I just signed up for your newsletter Nancy! Thank you for the extra giveaway & participating in the scavenger hunt. I love these each year, it’s so fun to learn more about the authors & their books 🙂

Thanks Nancy for being part of this fun Scavenger Hunt.
I’m not one that likes change or leaving my little cocoon of a comfort zone but sometimes GOD has different plans than we do. A few years back my husband and I were the worship leaders in our home church, we got a new pastor and he wasn’t excited with us leading worship so long story short we were replaced and were basically told to leave.
A few Sundays later we decided to drive to visit my cousin that was a Pastor on a American Reservation. He asked us to do worship that morning, the church was very small and he didn’t have anyone in that position. After the service my hubby looked at me and we both said at the same time, we need to be here. It was almost a 2 hour drive every Sunday morning but we did it for about 2 years. Had anyone asked me would I drive 2 hours to church every weekend I would have laughed and said NO WAY, but GOD had a different plan and we have seen His blessings in our life since we followed His leading.
Thanks for the bonus giveaway, getting a set of your books would be absolutely amazing!

I stepped out of my comfort zone this summer (and it did not involve snakes).
I have a dislike of heights (I get very shaky on just a chair much less higher than that). This summer I was helping my dad replace a belt on his hay baler. I said a quick quiet prayer and climbed the ladder, which is not something I do usually. Then I had to look down and stretch quite a bit to get the belt to go in correctly. Dad was impressed (of course he didn’t know that my legs and hands were threatening to shake me all over).
Thank you for being a part of the hunt.

Signed up for your newsletter! When I was in middle/high school (back in the 70s) I helped my Mom & Aunts finish some quilts my Grandmother started. She made a quilt for everyone of her grandchildren & we were finishing up the last ones! It was very intricate work. I’ve always wished I had kept that up but now I have arthritis in my hands & I know I couldn’t do it anymore.
Signed up for your newsletter–so glad to be introduced to new authors as part of this giveaway!!
I signed up for your newsletter. Haven’t read any of your books yet, but look forward to it. I haven’t quilted much, but I’ve been working for weeks on sewing a new mask. Too unsure to try my new sewing machine yet, so I’ve been doing it by hand, which is why it’s taking so long. So I totally empathize with your sewing stories.
Signed up.
I subscribed to your newsletter! Thanks for the giveaway!
